Closing the Bones
Closing the Bones is a ceremonial way of returning a mother to herself, both physically and energetically after childbirth (though it can be performed on women who haven't birthed but wish to close something else in their life). The ceremony draws from a number of postnatal traditions from around the world, but particularly Latin America and Asia. These traditional cultures know that a woman needs support following childbirth, in a way that we seem to have forgotten in the West.
Many women find that when they have given birth they feel 'broken open'. The body, mind and spirit have to open and let go from a deep place to bring a new soul into the world. Closing the Bones helps a woman to bring herself back together. The physical work brings her bones and organs back into their right places. The honouring, focus and intention of the ceremony helps the woman draw her energy back into herself.
There are a number of different pieces to Closing the Bones and each woman can choose the pieces that feel right for her.
There is the Sealing Ceremony, where the woman is 'tucked in' using beautiful scarves around her head, shoulders, pelvis, knees and feet and each part of her is honoured. She might have a foot or hand massage also. She is then allowed to rest in this place for as long as she needs for it to feel complete.
There is an option to have some robozo sifting, the use of a scarf to rock the pelvic bones in order to help them back into alignment. A belly massage, around the tummy, and hips, helping to draw the woman's energy back to her creative centre, her womb.
You might wish to have a belly binding, a special kind of wrapping around the tummy and hips which would stay on for a number of hours or days, to support the pelvis and assist the body's return to normal.
It is also possible to include a ceremonial bath or yoni steam before the ceremony, cleansing and clearing in preparation for the closing. If you are wanting to reconnect with your baby following a traumatic birth then the bath can include rebirthing with your little one.
All of this can be performed from 7 days post partum (4 weeks following a caesarean), and then up to any point in a woman's life. It is never to late to do this work. If you have not had babies you might wish to do parts of this to mark the end of a marriage, a business venture or a creative project.
Sealing ceremony - £50
Sealing ceremony with massage or robozo - £65

All of this is done in the privacy of your home. It might be that you would like to have your community of women around you, and they can take part in the ceremony. It is also possible for a small group of women to all have the ceremony, working together with me to hold one another in the ceremony.
I am based in Birmingham and am happy to travel throughout the West and East Midlands, into the South East and West and also into Wales. Do be in touch to find out if I cover where you live. Mileage rates may apply.
Honouring the Bones
I honour your bones.
I cradle your bones,
As we are cradled in the palm of the Great Mother
I honour your stories.
I honour the stories you hold in your bones.
The stories of life and death and birth and grief and living.
I see you.
I see the strength,
The strength and love and courage in your bones.
I see you sister, daughter, mother, grandmother.
I see the ancestors.
I see them walking in your bones.
I love you.
I love and honour you.
I love and honour the bones of you.
As I hold and honour you,
So do you honour me.
